Privacy and measurement

Your data is yours. You are not data. We don’t sell. We don’t profile you. We don’t look at your content. This page explains the one measurement we run to improve our apps, and what we never collect.

Metastaz Insights

We count; we don’t identify. We cannot make our apps better without knowing how fast they open, where they stall and which features are used. We measure this without knowing who anyone is: our server stores only totals, never individual visits. It is used only to improve the products; never for ads, never shared, never sold.

Collected

  • Performance: launch time, screen-to-screen transition time, stalls longer than 200 ms, request durations, slow-to-respond taps.
  • Errors: the error type and a short trace scrubbed of personal information. Only the code file name and line number remain; anything in quotes, numbers, addresses and e-mails are removed.
  • Feature counters: how many times a feature was used (only the event name and a count).
  • Coarse environment: platform (Android, iOS, desktop, TV), browser family and major version, screen size class (phone, tablet…), app version.
  • Taps and response: how many times a button or link was tapped and how long the screen took to respond. Elements are counted under a fixed name set by the app (for example “settings.save”); the button text, on-screen text and where you tapped are never sent.
  • Friction signals: counts of repeated rapid taps on the same spot and of taps where nothing happened (element name and count only).
  • Media: load and first-display time of images, video and audio, with a coarse size class (for example “under 100 KB”); the file address and content are never sent.
  • Step counts: such as “of those who opened the app, how many started studying, how many finished”. This is worked out on your device; only the total for “this step was reached” is sent, never who did what in which order.
  • Launch count: how many times an app was opened. Launches are counted, not people; two launches by the same person cannot be linked.

Never collected

  • The content of your messages, files, searches or answers.
  • Your name, username or account number.
  • Your IP address: the measurement server neither reads nor stores it.
  • Your location, advertising ID, persistent device ID, browser fingerprint, cookies.
  • Which page you are on: no page address is sent; a screen name is only a generic word like “settings”.

How it works

  • Measurements stay on Metastaz’s own server. Nothing goes to a third-party analytics service or ad network.
  • Each app sends its measurements to its own address (for example edu.metastaz.org/_insights), without cookies or the page address.
  • The server immediately puts every value into a range (such as “300–400 ms”) and counts it; no individual records are kept. Totals are written to the database once a minute.
  • Retention: hourly totals for 35 days, then folded into daily totals; anything older than 400 days is deleted. Scrubbed error traces are kept for 90 days.
  • The data is anonymous from the moment it is collected and cannot be linked to any person, so it is not personal data under KVKK (Turkey’s data protection law). We still list exactly what we collect and let you turn it off.
  • On Metastaz ID sign-in pages only performance is measured (launch, stalls, errors); taps are not counted.

Turning it off

  • Every app has an Anonymous measurement switch in its settings. When it is off, that app sends nothing. The choice is stored in this browser for that app.
  • If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, measurement starts off.
  • The switch for metastaz.org is right below.
JavaScript is needed to change this setting.

What does “we don’t profile you” mean?

Profiling means recognising you across sites or across days and building up information about you. Metastaz has no code that does this: nobody follows you around and no trace is tied to a person. Metastaz Insights does not know who you are: it uses no identifier, cookie or IP, and cannot even link two launches by the same person. No other company’s analytics or ad code loads on any Metastaz page.

Ads

Metastaz is funded by the services it provides. If we ever run ads, everyone sees the same ones: no personal targeting, and no measurement data, account details or content are used for ads; your data is never sold.

Metastaz Maps

Your location is used on your device to show you on the map and as the start of a route. Route and search requests (start, destination, the place you search for) go to Metastaz’s own server to be computed; these requests are not logged. Live traffic and flight data are downloaded in bulk: which road or plane you look at never leaves your device.

While the Drive log setting is on, your location, speed, heading and screen smoothness are stored only on Metastaz’s server for 7 days to find bugs; your searches, saved places and IP address are not recorded. Turn it off or delete the records in Maps under Settings → Privacy.

Metastaz Weather

If you choose to use your location, it stays in this browser. For the forecast, coordinates are rounded to about 5 km and sent to Open-Meteo from our server, not from your device; the server keeps no request log. Searching for a city needs no location.

Metastaz Time

To measure how fast or slow your clock is, the page asks our server for the time. No location is asked for and no request log is kept.

Metastaz Holidays

Holiday and working-day calculations need no account or key. The server keeps no request log; the dates you ask about are not stored.
